Description

About Us: Waipa Civil is a specialist contractor in trenchless technology, delivering high-quality underground infrastructure solutions across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty. We play a unique and vital role in enabling low-impact, precision installations for essential services. Specialising in laser-guided auger boring and using advanced Bohrtec systems, we’re growing and looking for people who are ready to be part of something specialised and impactful. Position Overview: We are looking for a capable and hands-on Microtunneling Foreman to lead and support trenchless operations on site. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in civil or underground works who enjoys mentoring others, maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, and delivering high-quality outcomes. Key Responsibilities: * Collaborate with project managers/engineers to plan and execute drilling operations, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines. * Interpret and work from construction drawings, alignment plans, and project specifications. * Lead the day-to-day setup, operation, and maintenance of trenchless equipment. * Supervise and support trenchless operations, with a focus on microtunneling and guided boring techniques. * Proactively identify and resolve on-site issues to minimise downtime and maintain progress. * Maintain site safety, enforce H&S procedures, and ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards. * Record daily site activity, including equipment performance, crew hours, and material usage. * Train and assist crew members to develop their skills and maintain productivity. Requirements: * Minimum 7 years’ experience in trenchless, civil, or underground infrastructure projects. * Strong leadership and mentoring abilities with a team-focused approach. * Hands-on experience with trenchless methods such as laser-guided auger boring. * Familiarity with Bohrtec or similar trenchless systems preferred. * Physically fit and capable of working in varying and potentially extreme conditions, including heat, cold, dust, noise, and confined spaces. * Demonstrated commitment to high safety standards and quality outcomes. * Effective communication and problem-solving skills. * Full driver’s license and relevant safety certifications preferred. * Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test. What We Offer: * A chance to be part of a niche and highly specialised trenchless team, working on unique, technically advanced projects. * Long-term potential with a company that values your skills, input, and development. * Modern equipment, ongoing training, and a high-performing support culture. * Real variety in the work, not just routine trenching — you’ll problem-solve, adapt, and grow. * Competitive pay, job security, and a respectful, down-to-earth work environment. How to Apply: If you’re keen, send your CV and a short cover letter to careers@waipacivil.co.nz with the subject “Microtunneling Foreman”. Note: Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews. We thank all applicants for their interest in joining our team. Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa. We look forward to having you on our team!
