The Role Join Matahuru Farms as a Block Manager/Shepherd General and take on a hands-on, leadership role within our team. Your main focus will be overseeing a dedicated 130ha block, with an emphasis on optimizing cell-grazing operations and ensuring smooth day-to-day activities. You’ll also work closely with our 2IC and have the opportunity to work alongside the rest of our team, sharing your expertise across several properties and providing support wherever it’s most needed. Key Duties (Including, but not limited to): Supervising and executing daily operational plans for the 130ha cell block, ensuring optimal cell grazing performance. Carrying out animal health programmes and maintaining excellent stock records across all stock types (cattle, horses, goats). Yard work & stock handling across multiple species. Shifting trade stock and executing precise cell grazing rotations. Reporting and communicating clearly and proactively to the 2IC. Tractor work and general machinery operation. Weed management and pasture maintenance. Fencing and water maintenance. Key Attributes & Experience: Required Attributes: Honesty & Integrity Reliability & excellent time management. Clear and constructive communication is key. We run an intensive business and need people who are great at keeping communication clear, positive, and constructive to keep the whole team moving. Proven ability to manage a block and work independently. Positive attitude and pride in your work. Excellent organisation skills—essential for liaising with other managers. Experience Required: Proven experience in livestock farming and management. Experience in intensive cell-grazing systems is beneficial, but we are willing to train the right applicant. Demonstrated ability to manage a block and work independently. Experience in handling and mustering livestock. Good level of fitness. 2 reliable Working Dogs under good command. Be able to provide at least two written or verbal references. A Current Full NZ Driver’s license and a NZ Residency or a valid NZ work visa.
