The opportunity - Te āheinga Are you passionate about plants and looking to lead a team in one of New Zealand's most iconic botanical settings? We have an exciting opportunity for a Fernery Supervisor to join our team at the stunning Fernery and Display Houses in Pukekura Park, New Plymouth. In this hands-on role, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day operational delivery of services across our fernery and display house collections. Working on a 7-day roster, you'll supervise a small team of 2-3 staff, ensuring high standards of plant care including watering, spraying, propagating, and general husbandry to maintain our vibrant displays. Your presence will also play a key role in security and public engagement, helping to deter vandalism and theft while fostering a welcoming environment for visitors. This is a unique opportunity to combine your horticultural expertise with leadership and custodianship in a truly special setting. Key responsibilities - Ngā haepapa matua This includes the following: * To coordinate the delivery of services to customers for the Fernery and Display Houses collections as determined by the Pukekura Park Lead * To ensure the services provided and use of any contractors/subcontractors is coordinated efficiently and effectively and all resources are optimised * To provide specialist plant technical knowledge * Actively ensure that good employer obligations and legislative requirements are fulfilled, particularly in relation to all key relevant legislation Essential skills and experience - Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako This includes the following: * Relevant National Qualification in Horticulture * Driver's licence for relevant vehicle classes * Computer literacy * In the horticulture industry * Demonstrated competency in the coordination of staff and resources * Familiarity with professional horticultural industry standards, procedures and practices Why Taranaki? - He aha ngā hua o te rohe nei?
