As an Education Tutor you will support prison-based learners to become better prepared for employment and further education. You will focus on supporting learners to engage in pathway assessments, using our secure online education websites to help improve their skills, knowledge, and transition into further study and/or employment post release. You will also be supporting a variety of education programmes and activities offered to the men we manage. You will play a significant role in encouraging learners to improve their literacy and numeracy skills, work towards achieving New Zealand qualifications and to acquire job search skills. This position is based within our custodial environment thus it is imperative that you can effectively lead by example and maintain professional boundaries. By interacting closely with key stakeholders, both internal and external, you will be collaborative in sharing information and ensuring outcomes beneficial to the successful rehabilitation of the men in our care. This is a 12 month fixed-term contract, based at Rimutaka Men's Prison. The successful candidate will begin on 23rd February, 2026. This role supports the delivery of programmes under the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship Programme, specifically the Thematic Short Term Training Scholarships (TSTTS) portfolio and in-country (IC-ELT) programme. Key responsibilities of the role Develops and maintains processes and relationships to support the successful operation and delivery of the TSTTS and IC-ELT programmes with strong attention to detail, quality and accuracy. This includes the following: * Work with key stakeholders, including Education NZ, MFAT and New Zealand Post teams to promote the programmes * Lead the application process for TSTTS programmes, including management of the application portal * Produce monthly activity reporting, including extraction and manipulation of data from application portal * Financial management, including creation of budgets and reporting * Accountability for predeparture briefings, travel logistics, accommodation, stipends, orientation, and escalated pastoral care issues * Engage with providers to ensure successful delivery of the programmes * Monitoring and evaluation and associated reporting * Assist with the other international and scholarship programmes and activities as requested The right balance of traits for this role is a mix of autonomy, problem solving, and teamwork, but you'll always have the full support of both the Wellington Uni-Professional scholarships and operations teams.
