Read on! About the role We are currently seeking two Gardener's Assistants for our Highlands village located in Highland Park, East Auckland. This village has a great resident community and as part of the gardening team you will help maintain and develop the luscious botanical gardens set over 12 acres for our residents and visitors to enjoy! With over 1000 roses, ponds and a bird aviary, this role will offer the successful candidate variety and challenge. The role is working Monday to Friday -7.30am to 4pm = 40 hrs week. As an experienced gardener, some of the responsibilities you will oversee include: * Establishing new planting as required to maintain standard of gardens (plants, shrubs, trees etc.), making sure the right plants are put in the right area for the village to maintain ascetics, seasonal changes and future management. * Utilizing the garden maintenance feedback and work with the Head Gardener to maintain communication with the village team and residents around planned works. * Actioning planned maintenance programs * Maintenance of gardening equipment and ensuring it is used as per instructions and staff are trained in appropriate use of equipment. * Undertake landscaping and grounds work. About you This is a physical role where you are part of a passionate team keeping our village gardens flourishing and community areas vibrant. You'll be confident in your gardening abilities and able to communicate with a range of people. * Proven experience as a Gardener or Landscaper and have a passion for gardening and ground maintenance * Thorough knowledge of gardening and landscaping methods * Hold and maintain a clean and valid New Zealand driver's license. * You'll be fit as you'll undertake physical work and need to operate garden machinery. * Have a 'Can do and will do' attitude who can work well in a team or with minimal supervision * Ability to plan and communicate with a range of stakeholders including the Village Management and residents About us Established in 1984, Metlifecare is a leading owner and operator of retirement villages, providing rewarding lifestyles and care to more than 7,400 New Zealanders.
