Opportunity to work at one of New Zealand's major mining operations Mine Technician Tradestaff Dunedin are looking for hardworking, reliable Mine Technicians for upcoming intake opportunities at Macraes Mine in East Otago. This is a physically demanding role suited to candidates who enjoy hands-on outdoor work, can handle long shifts, and are comfortable working in all weather conditions. This is a great entry-level opportunity to get your foot in the door within the mining industry. Previous industrial, labouring, or large-scale site experience is highly regarded as it helps candidates integrate into the role and site procedures more effectively. We’re looking for resilient, safety-conscious workers with a strong work ethic and the flexibility to commit to a rotating roster of day and night shifts. Location: Macraes Flat, East Otago Start date: Upcoming intake Pay rate: $28 per hour | Weekly pay What you’ll be doing: - Assist with field-based exploration activities including soil, rock, and water sampling - Operate and maintain exploration tools and equipment - Record, label, and handle samples accurately - Support drilling teams with logistics and material handling - Conduct site preparation, pegging, and drill location marking - Handle and lift core trays throughout shifts (repetitive lifting involved) - Measure and mark drill core to precise specifications - Cut core samples using diamond rock saws - Clean and organise workspaces and core sheds - Assist geologists and wider site teams as required - Complete data entry and maintain accurate records - Communicate with team members both face-to-face and via radio What we’re looking for: - Full NZ Driver Licence (manual driving confidence preferred) - Physically fit and capable of repetitive lifting throughout 12-hour shifts - Strong health and safety awareness and attitude - Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions — rain, hail, heat, or cold - Comfortable working both day and night shifts on a rotating roster - Reliable, resilient, and able to maintain demanding work cycles - Previous labouring, industrial, mining, or manual handling experience preferred - Ability to follow procedures and work safely in a large-scale operating environment - Able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test What’s on offer: - 7 days on / 7 days off / 7 nights on / 7 nights off roster - Consistent 12-hour shifts (6:40am/pm – 7:00pm/am) - Company bus provided to and from site from Dunedin - Entry-level pathway into the mining industry - Opportunity to work at one of New Zealand’s major mining operations - Weekly pay and ongoing opportunities for the right people Why work with Tradestaff?
