17THE Best 6x6 Folding Camera of its Era! Agfa Super Isolette with Solinar 75mm f3.5 lens (4 element Tessar design) Forget all those other German cameras, even the Zeiss!; a few have equal lens quality but none of them are as technically advanced or well built as the Agfa Super Isolette. At present, there are fewer than5 or 6 of these for sale around the world with prices as high as $4000! This one is in almost mint condition and, when I bought it a few months ago, I sent it away through Photo & Video for a full CLA (Clean, Lube, Adjust). It came back looking like new and with everything, absolutely everything, functioning like new. The rangefinder was adjusted and tested for accuracy and can confidently be used with the lens wide open at f3.5 delivering tack sharp images. Even at f3.5, the image is amazingly sharp across the whole frame. Looking at all the others for sale, I reckon this is right up there with the absolute best. The only blemish of any note is a very small shallow indentation on the top back plate that can barely be seen. I rate it as a 9.5 from 10. Even the case is virtually mint and it comes with the Agfa strap box for accessories, a UV filter and push on lens hood. As an example of how advanced these are, film loading is pretty much as simple as loading a 35mm film. Unlike almost every other roll film camera, the Super Isolette has a film measuring system that knows when it has been wound on to the start of the film and it accurately measures every next frame for perfectly spaced negatives. Because of that system; it doesn't need a red window to see when you've wound on to the next frame; that's automatic. No red window also means it's excellent and shoots colour or infrared film with ease! This is one of the top collectible cameras of it's day and it is absolutely a joy to use today.
