An Evening of Poetry – Written, Found, and Felt

This month, you are invited to bring along one or more pieces of poetry to share with the group. Ideally, you might like to read something you have written yourself – whether it is finished, experimental, or simply a fragment you feel drawn to explore. If you prefer, you are just as welcome to bring a poem written by someone else that resonates with you. Choose something you are happy to read aloud and discuss, and that opens a window into why it speaks to you. **Important note:** The meetup runs for 1.5 hours. Please understand that its success relies on ALL participants bringing along at least one piece of poetry to be read and discussed. If you are unable to present and discuss your poem(s) to the group, please skip this meetup, as its success depends on everyone's contribution. Poetry offers us a unique way of engaging with experience. The act of writing a poem distils thoughts and feelings into language sharpened by rhythm, imagery, and silence. It encourages reflection, emotional clarity, and the courage to say something personal in a crafted, thoughtful way. Reading poetry invites us into another mind’s way of seeing, providing a bridge between inner worlds. Sharing poems—our own or those we love—helps us practice deep listening, gentle interpretation, and open-hearted conversation. Together, we will explore what the poems reveal, what they question, and how they make us feel. No prior experience with poetry is required; just bring curiosity, presence, and a willingness to engage with meaning in its most concentrated form. Whether you are a seasoned writer or someone rediscovering the pleasure of verse, this evening promises a warm, creative, and reflective space in which to connect. You must register and be on the “Attendees - Going” list to attend. Minimum spend of $10 at the cafe on food and/or drink. This enables us to have free use of their private room. We meet UPSTAIRS at the Little Turkish Cafe. Please arrive early to order food and/or drink before you join us. Several people arrive early and eat downstairs before the Meetup. You are welcome to join us. Bring $1 to cover Meetup costs. RSVP POLICY: RSVPs and cancellations will be accepted up until 6 hours before the start of the meetup so that people who feel unwell on the day have time to change their RSVP and allow someone else to attend. Being registered to attend and not attending OR cancelling your attendance after 12:30pm on Tuesday will be considered a 'No Show'. Members with two 'No Shows' will be banned from attending further D&M Meetups. This RSVP policy has become necessary due to the high number of last minute withdrawals and non-attendance. This unfairly causes people on the Waiting List to miss out. Thanks for your cooperation.
