Role Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Steel Erector with a strong background in steel erection and a keen eye for safety and detail, to fill a permanent position at Queenstown Engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient erection of structural steel for various projects in and around Queenstown. This is a great opportunity to be part of a reputable team and contribute to exciting and challenging projects. Minimum of 30 hours of work per week guaranteed, up to 45 hours per week Monday – Friday. Weekend work can be available if there is capacity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Erect and install structural steel for a variety of construction projects
- Ensure safe and efficient operations in compliance with all safety standards
- Work collaboratively with other team members to complete projects on time
- Operate and maintain heavy machinery and equipment
- Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
- Assist with loading, unloading, and securing steel components
- Conduct pre-task safety planning and adhere to all health and safety policies
Key Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in steel erection or a related field
- Ability to pass AS/NZ 2980 weld tests
- Valid Class 4 driver’s license and experience driving heavy goods vehicles
- Solid understanding of health and safety regulations
- Ability to work well in a team environment and independently
- Effective communications skills and fluency in English
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow instructions
- Excellent physical fitness and the ability to work at heights
- NZQA qualifications relevant to the steel erection industry (e.g., New Zealand Certificate in Construction (Level 4) – Steel Fixing or Steel Erection)
- Additional NZQA construction-related qualifications would be an advantage, including New Zealand Certificate in Construction (Level 4) or New Zealand Certificate in Steel Erection (Level 4)
- Forklift license and any additional relevant certifications are an advantage
