Kayaks, catamaran style

Switchsports Wingman kayaks -- use individually or better yet, click them together into a extremely safe and stable catamaran. A very clever design and very well made in New Zealand; but doesn't seem to be on the market any more. This combo has had little use, is in generally good condition; selling because as we age my wife and I just don't use them any more. Originally purchased in 2011, direct from the factory in Napier, cost $3990 then. Each kayak is 3850mm long by approx. 750mm wide; the aluminium deck that clips inbetween the two hulls is 500mm wide by 1700mm long. When all assembled the whole craft is approx. 2000mm wide. Each kayak has a forward storage well, 4 rod holders, a rear bait bucket well, and multiple tie-down points. The exact weight is unknown, but the two of us could pick it up and carry it into the water. The heart of the combo is an click-together H-shaped aluminium spar structure (see photos). The cross-spars slot into tubes moulded into the thick plastic of the hulls, everything clicks together very precisely with spring-loaded buttons into holes. It has a firm fit all round, with no sloppiness in any joints. The nose cones are fitted separately. Assembly takes 25 to 30 minutes for one person, but is easier for two people to handle the job. Please note that the photos show the combo in various stages of assembly, with the seats not fitted. When we bought this we were told it could be optionally outfitted with a low-horsepower petrol or electric trolling motor, or a mast and sail. There is a moulded-in battery well in each kayak if an electric motor is used. It will be up to the purchaser to investigate those options if they wish. Included in the sale are two paddles, two low-back seats, two personal flotation jackets (chosen with large armholes to allow easy paddling), and two custom-made kayak racks that slot into a common Rhino-Rack car roof rack.
