We are looking for someone experienced who loves working, is not afraid to get out of the machine, had a good knowledge of civil construction including drainage, trenching, trench shields, pavement installation (understanding materials, levels and preparation for sealing), finishing work, earthworks (optimum compaction, sealing up before weather etc), concrete works, landscaping and all things that come with it. We are looking for someone who has a “can do” attitude, understand what is needed and how to get there and can lead a site independently as required. Machine experience – Class 2 minimum, ideally Class 4/5, highly skilled on an excavator (with GPS experience), competent on a skid steer and final trim for pavement preparation, and misc. small items rollers, loaders, compactors etc. We are a company who relies on its key people, and therefore pay well above market rate for the right person. Key responsibilities include: ● Lead a crew and provide direction. ● Final trim and detailed excavation, bulk earthworks and trenching – Capable of using Trimble GPS. ● Work safely around live services, infrastructure and live traffic. ● Understand different aggregate optimum’s, understand how much moisture and compaction is required to achieve the results we need. ● Operating all vehicles & machinery with the required licences, Class 1 & 2, WTR are required including excavator, skid steer, roller, truck & light vehicle onsite with the required licenses. ● Turning up to work on time and ready for work. SBA Civil Ltd’s name and reputation lies with its employees, it is expected that you turn up on time and fit for the job at hand. ● Understanding of the quality assurance requirements of the job, recording information (including photos) for record purposes for all works ● Complete daily pre-start of all vehicles and machinery being used. ● Trenching for Pipe installation, operate a Loader to load trucks, Load truck with digger and ramps with no supervision. ● Able to operate and maintain/ fault find small civil equipment eg: plate compactors, footwackers. ● Able to identify and use excavator attachments. ● Able to work in isolation on small jobsites unsupervised and follow best practice earthwork guidelines which include environmental, water control rain preparation and sealing off, subsoil protocols, filling operations and material characteristic understanding (compaction requirements) ● When not operating or in downtime, ensure support is given “on the ground”. Help and be capable of manual labour which includes hauling of material, concrete works, carpenter work, step construction, cleaning of machinery and/or yards. ● Ensure all machinery (including site vehicle) is kept in “as new condition”. It is the responsibility of the operator to keep cabs clean and free of rubbish and dirt/ dust/ mud. Cleaning and machine maintenance to be completed and maintained on a daily basis. ● Ensure all machinery servicing and manufacture recommendations are followed daily prior to starting. I.e. greasing, oil checks, service dates/ hours etc. ● Ensure plant, labour and materials are utilised on site effectively and efficiently to deliver tasks. ● Be a team player and ensure full respect for the SBA Civil Project Manager and/ or Supervisor. ● Follow the direction given by the SBA Civil Project Manager and/ or Supervisor… ● Be prepared to work in wet conditions as and when required and/or complete other tasks as directed, including if not part of your usual duties, in the event of wet weather that prevents the performance of usual tasks. Understand that if wet days occur during the standard working week, hours may be made up on Saturday and Sunday if the job requires it. About you: ● 5+ years excavator experience in civil construction across multiple disciplines – Drainage, civil works, roading, pavements etc. ● Happy to jump on a shovel, complete concreting works, do whatever is needed to help the job. ● Strong relationship building and communication skills. ● A great team player with the ability to motivate and lead teams on site. ● Willing to learn and upskill ● Ability to plan tasks efficiently, including allocation of plant and labour resources and materials. ● Appreciation of Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental requirements in the Civil industry ● Reliable, physically fit, and motivated and driven. ● Able to get to and from work self-sufficiently. ● Drug and alcohol free
