Double Racing Kayak - Intermediate Popes Mirage K2 - River Layup - $1 Reserve

addressNorth Shore, Hauraki, Auckland, New Zealand

Description

Having a clear out - check my other listings! Popes Canoe Centre Mirage K2 double racing kayak. Fibreglass, Derakane vinylester resin, flip up rudder, tough river layup. The Mirage is a classic intermediate racing canoe with a good mix of speed and secondary stability. Length 6.5m, width ~56cm. Payload volume 200kg. Stability rating 6/10 (this is relative to other ICF spec kayaks, not a beginner boat). Have done many km’s in this boat, moving it along as we have moved to a more stable model for going out in bigger water conditions and need the space, thus $1 reserve. Will come with two spray decks (good shape but one of them needs a new front release strap stitched on). Steers from front with alloy pedals, but have also rigged it with plastic JKK multisport pedals fitted to the rear (these are not permanent or as responsive as the front pedals, but allow the rear paddler to steer if needed without re-rigging). Light enough for one person to load on the car. Description from Kirton Kayaks in the UK who developed the design: “This classic and capable design is not to be underestimated, and often gets a first ten place in the annual time trial from Devizes to Westminster. With a surprisingly slippy waterline shape and generous secondary stability (from the flared back deck) it’s a popular choice for canoe clubs and schools alike.” This was manufactured by Popes in South Africa and is a tough river layup. Overall hull is in reasonable used condition as shown with the usual bumps, a couple of small deck dings, and one professional repair around the bow area (see photo). The bow edge has some chips, not as knifelike as it once was, usual gravel rash and superficial scratches on the hull but still glides well in the water. Well built boat. Prefer local pickup or delivery, pickup Birkenhead or I can deliver for free within Auckland. If you are further out, roofspace.co.nz is an option, but would prefer to move it out quickly once sold to clear the space. Any questions, ask away. Happy bidding!
