Job Title: Wool Buyer/Trader Location: Wellington (on site) Employment Type: Full-time (Permanent) Start time : Immediate About Us: Segard Masurel (NZ) Ltd is one of New Zealand’s leading wool exporters, recognized for its extensive network, deep industry expertise, and unwavering commitment to quality holding 120+ years of experience in supplying top-quality NZ wool to the world. Our global reach allows us to sell around a quarter of New Zealand’s total clip to 25-30 countries worldwide, connecting local growers with international markets and ensuring sustainable, high-value trade relationships from the export office in Wellington. Wool offices are also located in Napier, Riwaka and Invercargill procuring wool direct from growers to fulfil substantial export requirements and also auctioning done at an arms-length basis. Position Overview: We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Wool Buyer/Trader. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about wool and eager to build a career in the industry. Key Responsibilities: • Evaluate and purchase wool through auctions in Christchurch and Napier, grower contracts, and private sales • Assess wool types to place into export consignments • Conduct administrative tasks, including data entry, order processing, and record maintenance • Build and maintain strong relationships with wool brokers, growers, and industry partners • Regular contact with our wool offices in Napier, Riwaka and Invercargill providing market information and site visits when required • Collaborate with logistics and shipping teams to coordinate procurement and export delivery • Stay informed on market trends and pricing • Collaborate with overseas customers to align their requirements with expected product availability/logistics from New Zealand • Represent the company at industry events Requirements: • Interest in wool and agriculture • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills • Strong planning, time management and attention to detail • Strong analytical/numerical skills • Aptitude to work solo and confidence in making decisions • Ability to travel whether within New Zealand or overseas • Full NZ driver’s licence • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office; training provided for internal systems) Desirable: • Wool industry knowledge or experience (preferred but not essential) What We Offer: • Career Stability: A secure, long-term role with one of New Zealand's leading wool companies. • Global Exposure: Opportunity to engage with international markets, including potential for overseas travel to Europe, China, India and other markets we deal in. • Supportive Team Environment: Work alongside experienced industry professionals. • Health and Wellbeing: free access to Clearhead – a mental health and wellbeing support platform. • Competitive salary and benefits package, with final details negotiable based on applicant’s skills, experience and qualification Applications close 4 September 2025 and it will be kept in strict confidence.
