The opportunity

During your internship no two days will be the same, and you will be exposed to a variety of engineering work programmes and have the opportunity to see large projects and operational facilities that ensure the Wellington community receives safe, reliable and compliant water services.
We have internship availability across a range of different teams that have a focus on treatment plant, network, development and consenting, design and asset management.
Day to day your tasks may include:
* assisting engineers to solve broadly-defined engineering problems
* attending incidents related to the water system and creating dynamic solutions

* supporting the team with process improvements for team-specific initiatives
* participating in general and field investigations.
Internships are available for students studying in New Zealand towards the following:

You will be required to be working towards an NCEA recognised postgraduate qualification at Level 7 or higher, such as a Bachelor or Masters Degree.

Qualifications and Skills
• A trade qualification as a distribution line mechanic is required with a minimum of 2 years post certification/registration experience in general line work, including current competence in the equivalent earthed line processes to be undertaken live.
• Hands-on experience in distribution line work to industry standards.
• A thorough knowledge of current regulatory and industry requirements.
• A trade qualification as a distribution line mechanic is required.
• Training and Certification in Live Line training ECP46.

About the Role
We’re looking for a qualified Trade Coach/Faultman to join our Reactive Services team in Ngauranga, Wellington. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines on-the-job training and technical coaching with reactive field service delivery.
You'll be responsible for developing trade staff through mentoring, training, and competency sign-offs – while also delivering high-quality fault response work across the Wellington region. When not training, you'll assist with HV switching, maintenance, and repairs.
Key Responsibilities
Coach and upskill trade staff in field.
Support with industry training and competency assessments.
Investigate and resolve quality audit issues.
Lead rollout of procedures and technical best practice.
Perform HV/LV fault response, switching, and maintenance.
