Senior Mechanic (two positions available) Location: Martinborough, Wairarapa Minimum guaranteed hours: 40 per week Hourly rate: between $30 and $45 per hour depending on experience We are seeking two experienced mechanics to join our expanding team. We are a family-owned and operated business, servicing and repairing a range of vehicles within the Wairarapa. Our workshop is a vital part of our transport mecca, servicing and repairing the entire Martinborough Transport fleet, along with occasional external clients. You will have access to top quality gear and work on the latest model of Scania and Kenworth trucks. About these Roles: You will apply your mechanical expertise to ensure our fleet runs smoothly, focusing on electrical, mechanical, and computer diagnostics. The right candidate may also be involved in overseeing workshop operations and the training of apprentices. You'll work closely with the team in a collaborative and supportive environment. A minimum of 3 years of experience in heavy vehicle, diesel mechanic or machinery maintenance is a must, 5 years is preferred. What We're Looking For: • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of heavy vehicle systems, including engines, brakes, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems. • Diagnostic Skills: Proficiency with diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues. • Hands-on Mechanical Skills: Strong experience in maintaining and repairing heavy vehicles, with the ability to handle complex machinery. • Safety Focus: Knowledge of safety protocols when working with heavy machinery. • Problem-Solving: Critical thinking and efficiency in resolving mechanical issues. • Physical Capability: Able to perform physically demanding tasks in varying conditions. • Communication: Strong communication skills with colleagues, apprentices, and clients, and the ability to document work effectively. • Preferably a successful applicant will either have an (international) qualification as a Diesel Mechanic, Heavy vehicle mechanic, or completed a National Certificate in Automotive Heavy Engineering (Level 4 or 5). • Knowledge in Scania and Kenworth vehicles would be a preference.
