Description

Mosaic is the new banner company, bringing together Mr Go’s, Ombra, Kisa, Parla, and LTD. Events, led by founder Dean White. Mr Go’s opened in 2016, with the purchase of Ombra (est. in 2013) in 2018. LTD. Events followed in 2021 and was the birthplace of Kisa as a pop-up restaurant, before Kisa’s permanent location opened in 2022. In just a few weeks, our newest restaurant, Parla, will open in Island Bay. We focus on accessible, considered and distinct offerings, shaped by our values of professionalism, warmth and consistency. We've built an excellent reputation for great food, drink and hospitality. Join the team at Mr Go's! In early August 2023, Mr Go's relocated to an all-new 145-seater restaurant on Eva St. Under the helm of our new Group Executive Chef, Jonny Taggart (previously Head Chef with us at Kisa), we’re looking for a superb Head Chef to lead our Mr Go’s kitchen with integrity, skill, and vision. With a competitive hourly pay rate indicative of $36-$39. About the Role This is a full-time leadership role at the heart of one of Wellington’s most recognisable and beloved modern Asian restaurants. As Head Chef, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day running of the kitchen team and systems, upholding our values and standards as a senior leader in our business. This role requires a strong focus on three core roles: Food, Finance, and Team. You’ll be expected to lead and execute the culinary side with skill and consistency, meet/exceed labour costs, food costs, and stock control targets, and mentor and develop junior team members. You are expected to champion our venue, coaching and leading our team. Key Responsibilities • Operational leadership of all kitchen functions, including service, prep, ordering, cost control, rostering, and team performance. • Full adherence to our food control plan and hygiene regulations, including the fastidious cleaning and maintenance of our kitchen and management of allergens. • Keeping food safety documentation up-to-date and audit-ready. • Employment compliance, including breaks, health and safety, and wellbeing. • Team development and training, ensuring junior team members are supported, upskilled and held to fair and professional standards. • Fostering a positive kitchen culture that’s inclusive, productive, and aligned with our values of consistency and professionalism. • Collaborating with the wider management team on menu planning, logistics, and business performance. Who You Are You’re an experienced chef with a proven track record leading a kitchen team in a busy, high-quality restaurant. We’re happy to accept applicants from skilled Sous Chefs looking for their first Head Chef position. You understand that being a Head Chef means more than just cooking – it’s about shaping culture, mentoring the team, and running a sound, safe and inspiring kitchen. You will be: • Calm, confident and clear under pressure. • Knowledgeable of our obligations - you take food safety, team safety and employment law seriously. • A great communicator and delegator. • Organised, with strong follow-through. • A natural mentor and motivator. • Able to uphold standards, hold people accountable, and do so with kindness. • A capable chef, with demonstrable skills and ideas. • Financially literate on the fundamentals of a restaurant, or willing to learn. You do not need prior experience in Asian cuisine to apply – we care more about your leadership and your ability to manage systems, teams and standards. Please email Stef Yates, Human Resource Manager, to apply. An immediate start is available, but we will also wait for the right candidates. stef@mosiacvenues.com
