Horse Trainer - Kingsclere Stables Location: Kingsclere Stables, New Zealand Employment Type: Full-Time About Kingsclere Stables Kingsclere Stables is a premier equestrian facility in New Zealand, renowned for its commitment to excellence in horse training, racing, and breeding. We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Horse Trainer to join our team and contribute to our legacy of producing high-performing horses. Role Overview The Horse Trainer will be responsible for preparing horses for racing, breeding, and other competitive activities. This role requires a deep understanding of equine behavior, training techniques, and welfare standards to ensure horses reach their full potential while maintaining their health and well-being. Key Responsibilities • Training and Conditioning: Develop and implement training programs to prepare horses for racing, shows, or competitions, ensuring optimal performance and fitness. • Horse Care: Monitor the health, diet, and welfare of horses, working closely with veterinarians and farriers to address any medical or hoof care needs. • Riding and Handling: Ride and handle horses during training sessions to assess progress, correct behaviors, and enhance performance. • Breeding Support: Assist in preparing horses for breeding, including handling and conditioning stallions and mares. • Race Preparation: Plan and execute strategies for race day, including warm-ups, rider instructions, and post-race evaluations. • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of training schedules, horse performance, and health conditions. • Team Collaboration: Work with stable hands, jockeys, and other staff to ensure seamless operations and high standards of care. • Compliance: Adhere to industry regulations, including licensing requirements, and ensure all activities meet animal welfare standards. Skills and Qualifications • Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience training thoroughbreds for racing. • Knowledge: Strong understanding of equine behavior, physiology, and training methodologies. • Physical Fitness: Ability to ride and handle horses, including performing physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions. • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members, owners, and industry professionals. • Problem-Solving: Ability to assess and address behavioral or performance issues in horses effectively. • Attention to Detail: Keen observation skills to monitor horse health and progress.
