We are seeking an aspirational IT leader looking to make their mark and lead technology change within the IT Services department and across Massey University.  Mō wai mātou | About Us Massey University is a world-leading institution across many academic disciplines and research fields. A new CIO has recently joined Massey, providing strategic leadership and vision for a modernised IT function prepared for a changing future in higher education. A new operating model has been designed and implemented. The CIO is building a talented, energetic, and forward-thinking senior leadership team to drive the University’s digital transformation. This is a full-time role. While the team is based in Palmerston North, the position can be based at our Wellington campus. Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this Role The Head of Technology leads the delivery of the core technology services that underpin all digital and IT services used by staff and students. You’ll advise the CIO on IT strategy and lead implementation of strategic improvement programmes. You’ll oversee several technology teams responsible for the full lifecycle of IT services (design, build, procure, evaluate, deploy, support, maintain, improve, retire), while contributing to the technology roadmap. A key part of the role will be optimising the mix of on-premises, cloud, and vendor-provided services to deliver the best value and performance. You’ll be accountable for ensuring high-quality technology services that meet the current and future needs of the University and delivering transformation initiatives in line with overall IT strategy. Āu Mahi | What You Will Do  • Lead the delivery of technology services that meet defined organisational needs. • Coordinate technology strategies to adopt common approaches that benefit the University. • Provide expert advice and direction in your area of specialisation. • Identify and assess new and emerging technologies, products, services, and methods. • Align technology strategy with the University’s business mission and processes, documenting this using architectural models. • Influence stakeholders to achieve outcomes that deliver mutual benefit. • Drive performance by developing individuals and teams to meet agreed objectives. • Support employee engagement, wellbeing, and new ways of working. Ko koe tēnei | Who You Are  You’ll bring the following experience and qualifications: • A tertiary qualification in IT or business management, or equivalent extensive industry experience. • Certification in IT Service Management at practitioner or manager level. • Recent experience in a senior IT leadership role – either as CIO/CTO/CDO of a mid-sized function, or as a direct report to one in a larger organisation. • At least 12 years’ experience in IT roles, including deep expertise in IT infrastructure management. • Experience delivering and operating technology services through a blend of internal, cloud, and vendor/partner models. • Proven success in leading large-scale technology transformation initiatives. • A strong understanding of strategic issues facing IT departments, ideally in a university or NZ government setting. • Experience in business services and process improvement.
