About the job: We're looking for an experienced Water Technician to join our team in Timaru. The role involves actively maintaining water reticulation networks on a reactive or scheduled basis to contract specifications. This may include: o Installation of new water main pipes and connections. o Repair leaking water mains, meter connections, service pipes, and irrigation systems. o Flushing, digging trenches and servicing valves and hydrants. What you'll need: o Ideally you will have previous experience in maintaining sewer and/or stormwater systems or experience within the construction and utilities industry. o We need someone who is able and willing to participate in the on-call and standby roster. o You will need to be physically fit, health and safety focused, and work well in a team as well as independently. o A full class 1 licence and an ability to drive a manual is also essential. All preferred candidates will be required to complete preemployment checks to the employer's satisfaction. These checks include but are not limited to, ministry of Justice criminal conviction report, medical assessment, and drug and alcohol testing. This may include: o General labouring such as cleaning, clearing, lifting or other civil work. o Use and maintain hand tools. o Operate plant as required such as Loaders, Rollers and Trucks. Key Responsibilities: • Plan and manage daily tasks efficiently to meet project timelines and optimize resource use. • Interpret construction plans and collaborate with the Project Manager to implement practical, effective solutions. • Communicate clearly and professionally with team members and management. • Share knowledge with team members. • Maintain accurate daily records, including resource allocation, health and safety updates, and productivity reports. • Operate a variety of heavy machinery (wheeled and tracked), including fitting and removing attachments as required. • Perform general civil construction duties, including lifting, carrying, and site preparation. What we are looking for: Having proven experience in operating machinery and Class 4 Full driver's license with WTR endorsements is essential or even better a class 5 with WTR license endorsements. Physical fitness and self-motivation Ability to work independently and as part of a team. A proactive, safety-conscious approach to work. For this role, you must have: * A Water ticket - minimum Level 3 Certificate in Water Reticulation or equivalent * Class 1 Full Driver's Licence; Class 2+ and WTR are preferred * Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar role * Prior experience in civil construction * A keen interest in learning the principles of water reticulation, pipeline pressure testing, and chlorination * We will need you to work Monday to Friday from 7:30 am – 4:30 pm (with overtime options) and be open to working weekends and public holidays occasionally. What will I be part of? Join Independent Pipeline Services (IPSL), an industy leader in pipeline testing, chlorination, and leak detection, serving the Water infrastructure sector across the South Island. We're looking for Water Technicians to help our team in pressure testing and chlorinating water pipelines. This role is crucial for our goal to distribute clean drinking water efficiently. What does a day in this job look like? You will start your day at our Rolleston base, preparing equipment and review job requirements. You’ll then work independently (or with a colleague) driving between civil/water infrastructure sites mainly within Canterbury. At these sites, you will follow IPSL's industry-leading chlorination and pressure testing procedures to ensure the water pipelines or reservoirs meet commissioning standards for drinking water.
