Description

Tasman Tanning South Island Limited is a leader in the tanning industry, which is situated on the outskirts of Timaru. The tannery plant is one of a few of its type in New Zealand and has an ongoing program of continual improvement and investment. We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Fitter to join the maintenance team for our Tasman Tanning site. The position is a full time, minimum 40 hours, 5 days per week which may include weekend days, dayshift and/or afternoon shift with some additional hours available. There is a rostered on-call component, which is rotated within the maintenance team. Our ideal candidate will be a self-starter who will consistently deliver a high-quality standard of engineering work with the right attitude. The desired candidate would possess the following attributes: • Qualified Maintenance Fitter • Experience in an industrial environment, minimum of 3 years • The ability to work unsupervised and meet deadlines ensuring maximized production. • Willing to work additional hours as required • Good communication skills with team members, contractors and other departmental staff. • Works with safety conscious methods and familiar with JSA's and take 5's. Tasks and responsibilities will include: • Measuring and fitting metal components using hand tools, power tools and machines • Assembling metal parts and subassemblies according to engineering specifications • Repair and maintain machines and equipment by replacing or repairing faulty parts. • Testing and adjusting machines and equipment to ensure proper functioning • General plant maintenance and repairs around the site. Marine Engineers - Deepwater Fishing Vessels

About the role Jump on board our deep-water fleet, a league of 12 fishing vessels operating year-round from Cape Reinga to the Ross Sea. Our deep-sea vessels can be at sea for up to 12 weeks at a time, catching, processing, and packaging seafood onboard, delivering the finest New Zealand seafood to tables worldwide. As a Marine Engineer with Sanford, you will have the opportunity to work aboard one of our vessels - including scampi, trawlers, and longliners - where you will be responsible for managing and maintaining the mechanical and electrical performance of the vessel's engineering systems. You'll work closely with the Skipper and wider crew to deliver safe, efficient operations while helping produce quality New Zealand seafood. Our vessels operate from ports including Timaru and Tauranga and across New Zealand waters, with a strong, values-led culture where people are considered our most important asset. This is an Independent Contractor role, working on a 6 weeks on - 6 weeks off rotation. Sanford covers the cost of your travel to get to the vessel and home again each journey. Responsibilities: * Ensure optimal functioning of all marine engineering systems, including diesel-electric propulsion and electric trawl winches, through regular maintenance and repair. * Troubleshoot, identify, and resolve technical issues promptly to ensure smooth operations throughout fishing voyages. * Work proactively to maximise fuel efficiency and reduce the vessel's environmental impact. * Maintain and enforce health and safety protocols, ensuring all engineering systems are routinely inspected and compliant with maritime safety regulations.
