We are recruiting a Machining Apprentice for our host company located in Rotorua.      If successful you will be employed by ATNZ and assigned to this host company where you will receive valuable on-the-job training while studying to become a fully qualified engineer.     What does a Machining Apprentice do?  Machinists manufacture precision componentry from engineering materials using various machining and hand processes. Machinists use tools like lathes, milling machines, and machining centres to create metal parts. These are usually made in large volumes, although precision machinists make small quantities of unique or special parts. This may be shorter if you have completed a level 3 pre-trade qualification.   * How much do apprenticeships pay?  *It varies between host companies. But the average annual salary for most of our apprentices is $41’000-$52’000. You may receive a higher or lower amount than this bracket depending on your skill level and the financial ability of the host company.   * Is there an upper age limit for apprenticeships?  *None. Anyone aged 16 or over with the right to permanently live and work in New Zealand is allowed to undertake an apprenticeship.   Do I need my own tools?  Some companies provide tools, while others require you to have your own. It is always good to build a supply of your own for the future.  One of the benefits of being employed directly by ATNZ is we offer our apprentices interest-free loans for tools.   What qualifications do I need to get an ATNZ apprenticeship?  No qualifications are necessary. We are looking for people with a great attitude and a good work ethic who want to be hands-on and earn something they are passionate about.   Are there any fees for being an ATNZ apprentice?  Whether you are employed by ATNZ or do your apprenticeship through your current employer, apprentices pay no fees.   What happens if my host company does not have enough work for me?  Another advantage of being employed directly by ATNZ is that if your host company can't continue employing you for whatever reason, we will do our best to place you with another host company.

Christchurch Ready Mix Concrete Ltd is a well-established family owned business which has been operating in Canterbury for over 60 years. We are looking for an experienced engineer to fill a fixed term role for 6 months in our dedicated engineering team that repairs and maintains all plant assets. This includes concrete plants, crushing and screening plants, fixed, mobile and earthmoving equipment, along with truck and trailer units. You will be based at our Belfast Site but also undertake work on our other sites within Christchurch and North Canterbury. This can be a fast-paced roll and a level head is required to ensure downtime is minimized, while correctly following our health and safety processes. The work is varied and challenging. Reporting directly to the Engineering Team Supervisor, you will need to have the confidence and skills to take ownership of repair and maintenance tasks, including the ability to problem solve. You will possess quality welding, fitting and fabrication skills and be able to finish your work to a high standard. Experience fabricating with steel is critical, while prior work with stainless steel and aluminum is a bonus. You will need to have the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. You will work in the workshop and in the field, as required. Some training will be provided to the successful candidate, to fill in experience and knowledge gaps if required. The ideal candidate will possess: • Trade Certification • Steel MIG welding tickets preferred • Experience Maintaining fixed plant and mobile equipment • Experience with ARC welding • An enthusiasm for Health and Safety • WTR, F, Class 5, EWP, Confined Spaces, working at heights or any other relevant tickets are a bonus You will also need to have the following: • Flexibility to work late or the occasional Saturday is essential • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills In return we can offer: • Wage rate depending on qualifications and experience is $35 to $39 per hour • Time and half after 40 hours, plus tool allowance • An opportunity to join a great team • Guaranteed 40 hours per week The successful applicant will be required to undergo a pre employment medical and drug test.
