Lakes Lodge Okataina is a unique destination located on the serene shores of Lake Okataina in Rotorua. The lodge is currently undergoing an exciting rebranding into an eco-cultural experience centre, blending sustainable tourism with the cultural heritage of Ngāti Tarāwhai. We are seeking a skilled and passionate Lodge Manager to lead this transition and oversee all aspects of lodge operations. About the Role The Lodge Manager will be responsible for the daily operations, team leadership, guest experience, and overall success of Lakes Lodge Okataina. This role requires someone who is confident managing a diverse hospitality environment while embedding cultural values, sustainability, and strong business performance into every part of the operation. Key Responsibilities Oversee day-to-day operations including accommodation, events, and guest services. Lead a culturally responsive and environmentally conscious guest experience. Manage, develop, and support lodge staff within a kaupapa Māori framework. Maintain high standards of health and safety, food hygiene, and regulatory compliance. Manage lodge finances, including budgeting, inventory, bookings, and supplier relationships. Develop partnerships with iwi, tourism operators, and cultural organisations. Support facility maintenance and refurbishment plans aligned with the new direction of the lodge. Promote kaitiakitanga (environmental guardianship) and tikanga Māori throughout lodge operations. Ideal Candidate Demonstrated experience in hospitality or lodge management, ideally in eco-tourism or culturally informed settings. Strong understanding of tikanga Māori and a commitment to working with iwi. Proven leadership and team-building capabilities. Solid financial and operational management skills. Commitment to delivering high-quality, authentic guest experiences. Passion for environmental sustainability and Māori cultural heritage. Preferred Qualifications & Attributes Relevant diploma or degree in Hospitality, Business, or Tourism. Te Reo Māori proficiency or willingness to learn. Certifications in First Aid, food safety, and workplace health and safety. Experience with eco-accommodation or sustainable business models.
