Ill health forced him to be educated privately. He spent only six months studying architecture at the Royal College of Art before joining the practice of George and Peto. At the age of twenty he started his own practice. Lutyens' career lasted fifty years in a time when Britain was at the height of its prosperity. He died in 1944. These three memorial volumes, compiled from the thousands of drawings found in Lutyens' office, embody the quintessence of the man and his work. Contained within are Lutyens' own plans, elevations and copious details of the finest examples of his architecture. (Vol I) 61pp., 110 plates, 271 photographs; (Vol II) 52pp.,121 plates, 277 photographs; (Vol III) 59pp., 107 plates, 173 photographs : each volume with photographic frontispiece and pale green eps : green boards lettered in gilt to spine : light green dust wrappers illustrated with images of buildings to the front and architectural plans to rear.
