Applications are sought for the position of Operations and Fire Officer at Kerikeri (Bay of Islands) Airport, and we welcome suitable applicants from all backgrounds and sectors to apply for the role. Full training for the role will be provided as we are looking for the right person whom we can provide the necessary training and skills to be proficient and successful in the role About the Role. The role is part of a team working for the Operations / Fire Chief who supports the Airport Manager in running the Airport. The role is made up of many components. Not just Firefighting. The role involves: (1) Emergency Response- Providing an emergency response (fire & medical) to any emergency or incident involving aircraft or the public at the airport, and learning and practicing Rescue and Fighting related knowledge and skills. (2) Operations, Grounds and Maintenance - Maintaining the airport to high standard, conducting regular airport and airfield inspections, driving and operating airport vehicles and equipment (3) Operations, Customer Service - Providing excellent customer service to all of our users and public and public liaison. (4) Operations and Safety - Controlling wildlife hazard to aircraft on and around the aerodrome, maintaining security a high standard, advocating our safety system and setting high standard, building relationships with other Airport staff, escorting visitors and contractors when on the airfield. About the work hours. Operations and Fire Offices are on duty at any time a scheduled passenger flight is operating at our airport, and this is accomplished through a shift roster. The shift roster can change to meet the demands of the of the business or its customers – but at present we are working a shift pattern of three days on followed by three days off. Overtime shifts are required to cover leave within the team. About a successful Applicant We are looking for the right person and that person would be someone who exhibit the following attitudes and values: * Has integrity * Is highly reliable * Is a team player * Has a positive attitude * Has good attention to detail * Demonstrates initiative and responsibility * Vigilant to hazards and observant of safety procedures * Keeps physically fit The Following skills and qualifications are beneficial (some are essential) to a successful applicant: * Current and clean Class 1 NZ Drivers (essential) * Basic computer literacy (essential) * Previous fire-fighting experience (very beneficial) * Current and clean Class 2 NZ Drivers (very beneficial) * Practical and hands on skills (beneficial) * Current First Aid Certificate (beneficial) * Current Firearms License (beneficial) * Customer Service skills (beneficial) We can provide the training for missing skills and qualifications, however the time critical nature of our qualification timeline will need to be taken into account. Please note that the aviation environment is highly regulated, and a successful applicant will be required to undertake a basic medical examination, a short physical assessment, and basic police background checks. About Kerikeri and the surrounding area: The Airport is located 5 minutes from the township of Kerikeri. Kerikeri is located in the winterless Far North of New Zealand and lies about 1 hour North of Whangarei and 3.5 hours North of Auckland. A half hour drive north or East of Kerikeri will take you to some of the most unspoiled coastline in the country including Matauri Bay and the Bay of Islands – both of which consist of some of the most pristine beaches and fishing/diving grounds int eh country.
