15This is a Mephisto Munchen modular chess board with the world-champion 32bit Vancouver computer module. This is an extremely rare computer chess system in New Zealand and even online. The board and chess set is in excellent condition for the age. It is a full size chess board and pieces. The board has some light circle marks on the white squares which is common with boards of this age, but the light needs to be just right to really see them. I have tried to capture it in the photos. Otherwise, the board veneer is excellent and it looks really sharp. It's a really eye pleasing board and a very unique conversation piece. The chess pieces are in excellent condition made of hand worked wood. The Mephisto boards were modular sets where you can actually swap out the computer modules to get different styles of play. The Vancouver module in this board was world champion for a while and is the 32 bit version which was one of the strongest with a 68020 CPU. It will have an ELO rating over over 2300 which is more than enough challenge for just about anyone reading this. I also purchased the "London" upgrade firmware from the author of the original Vancouver program and put it into this system. The original firmware is also present. The London upgrade has some bug fixes and even stronger play. You can swap it back out if you don't want it, or I can do it for you. I include the original manual as well. The module has a multitude of play options to alter openings, play strength, etc. This is an extremely unique item. Much more entertaining than playing on a screen and you can play away from the computer on your table or have it help with analysis. Physical chess computers have had a renaissance of late. I am reluctant to sell this highly collectible item, but I'm slimming down what I own and need to part with it. This would be an incredibly cool gift for someone in your life that likes playing chess, or even for yourself to own something truly unique and rare in New Zealand.
