Description

Whānau Support Workers – Dunedin & Queenstown Lakes (2 Positions | 30–37.5 Hours per Week) At Able Minds, we are passionate about supporting and empowering tangata whaiora and their whānau affected by mental distress, addiction, and suicide. Our dedicated support workers walk alongside families to promote self-care, resilience, and advocacy, helping to transform lives and strengthen communities. We are currently seeking two dynamic and compassionate Whānau Support Workers to join our growing team: • One based in Dunedin • One based in the Queenstown Lakes area Each role offers between 30 and 37.5 hours per week and involves travel within the local district to meet with families, collaborate with service providers, and build strong community networks. What You’ll Do: • Support whānau with practical tools to navigate mental health and addiction systems • Help build resilience and advocacy skills within family units • Work with clients across all ages — tamariki, rangatahi, adults, and seniors • Collaborate with community partners for holistic, whānau-centred outcomes • Promote Able Minds’ services in the region and represent our mahi with professionalism and empathy What You’ll Bring: • A relevant qualification in mental health, social services, education, or similar • Lived or professional experience in mental health or addiction support (advantageous) • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt your approach across diverse backgrounds • Strong knowledge of the mental health sector and community services • A full, clean NZ Driver’s Licence (essential) • Familiarity with Te Tiriti o Waitangi and commitment to culturally responsive practice • A current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain) Why Work With Us? • Be part of a purpose-driven, community-based organisation with offices across Otago and Southland • Join a supportive, inclusive team that values professional development and flexibility • Make a lasting impact on the lives of individuals and whānau in your community Download the Job Description: www.able.org.nz Apply via Seek Applications close: 5:00pm, 2 July 2025 Questions?
