This includes constructing, erecting, installing, pouring, and repairing structures to the highest quality standards, while consistently applying Zero Harm principles and ensuring all safety systems and strategies are implemented and monitored. **Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills** You will need at least 3 years' relevant work experience in the contracting industry as the role will include key result areas including: * **Operations:** Direct and control activities of crew on a day-to-day basis in accordance with project plans and targets. * **Customer & Public Relations:** Liaise with client and company representatives as required to ensure work is carried out to the client's satisfaction and meets company standards. * **Staff Management:** Assist Contract Manager and Supervisor in the selection, coaching and development of staff. * **People Development:** Helps the individuals in their team to set clear targets for their area of responsibility and provides support and coaching to achieve these. * **Safety, Quality & Environmental (SQE) Risk Management:** Monitor operations under your control to ensure compliance with local By-Laws, Government Statutes and Regulations, and with Downer NZ Limited policy in relation to SQE assurance. **Core skills required for the role:** * Must be willing to travel as the role is predominantly based in Dunedin, travel will be required across Otago and Southland. * Experienced extruding kerb channel advantageous * Experienced completing concrete repairs * Working at Height training * MEWP training * Experienced working in/under Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) conditions * Experience in self-compacting concrete, formwork and placement * Appropriate Driver Licence Classes for role **Key attributes that are beneficial for the role:** * Physically fit * Demonstrated interest/experience in work that crew is involved in * Keen and willing to learn * Able to problem solve * Leadership skills; professional image * Team player; works easily with others * Motivated to do a good job; reliable with a good work ethic * Able to communicate with others; effective listening skills * Keen to contribute to the team goals; self-starter and goal orientated **Experience, Educations & Qualifications:** * Level 4 qualification (trade certificate, diploma), OR at least 3 years of relevant experience can replace a formal qualification if no qualification * Formal qualification is desired but can be replaced by suitable work experience. * Effective communication skills. **Ko wai mātou | Our Organisation** Want to know more about what it is like to work at Downer? About the Role: We’re looking for a hands-on Civil Utilities Foreman / Operator based in Central Otago or Queenstown Lakes region. This is a role combining operational responsibility with site leadership. You’ll lead small crews on utility works projects — including trenching and civil construction work mainly involving Drainage and Water, and Power. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced operator ready to step into a leadership role, or a Foreman who’s still keen to be on the tools.
