This is a smart looking New Zealand Pottery tankard by Peter Stitchbury (1924 - 2013). He was an accomplished potter and artist who potted part-time while he held teaching positions up until the late 1960's, when he began potting full-time. In 1957 he was awarded a New Zealand Art Society Fellowship to study under Bernard Leach at St. Ives. In 1958 he joined Michael Cardew at his Pottery Training Centre in Abuja, Nigeria. He was awarded the MNZM in 2002. This is a stoneware tankard with a dark brown glaze which has a grey/green drip glaze over the top. The lower half of the tankard is horizontally ribbed all round. There is a decorative feature on one side which appears to be the bust of a girl who has pigtails. The tankard is about 16 cm in height and has a diameter at the base of 10 cm. There is a clear maker's mark just above the base at the rear. It is in very good condition with no repairs. Please see our other listings for more New Zealand pottery pieces. The starting price of $38.00 is the reserve. No BUY NOW. THE FOLLOWING IS VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE NOTE that both the rural and non rural courier quotes are the cheapest available (ex Christchurch) from Aramex Couriers but YOU MUST check with THEM as to whether THEY consider your address to be URBAN or RURAL and WILL DELIVER. They can have quite different ideas which may (probably will) differ from yours! For example: Christchurch to Ashburton is considered Canterbury delivery, Christchurch to Timaru is considered Rest of South Island delivery, Christchurch to Kaiapoi is rural!! They will not deliver to P.O. Boxes.
