This auction is for a set of vintage KEF CONCERTO speakers. These legendary British 3-way speakers were designed by Raymond Cooke, Malcolm Jones and their team, who founded KEF (Kent Engineering & Foundry) in 1961. KEF pioneered new technologies, producing speaker cones made from materials other than paper. They produced the floor standing KEF Concerto speakers in 1969 (until 1977, I think) . The Concerto became a major success with its high-end performance. They feature highly desired drivers: the iconic “racetrack” B139 bass driver, the B110 midrange and the T27 tweeter. I have been told that this set is an original factory-built one, not the DIY kit version known as the KEFKIT 3. The factory-built sets were specifically matched by KEF, feature a left and right version and have the badges on the grille cloth. The DIY versions are usually identical and have the crossover on the outside. Most Concertos sets were imported to NZ mounted on a baffle board only - KEFKIT 3. The enclosures were then made locally. The Concertos feature a warm and beautiful sound with liquid, deep bass, smooth mids and highs. Some of the best sounding speakers I have had, but we are running out of space. Naturally, the cabinets are showing some age with a few water stains and scuff marks (refer to photos), but they are in remarkably good condition for their vintage. They are approx. 730mm high, 430mm wide, 310mm deep and very heavy. Should you ever need parts (drivers, crossovers, etc.), you can still get them at Falcon Acoustics in the UK: https://www.falconacoustics.co.uk/drive-units-1/falcon-b110-t27-b139-drive-unit.html If you are keen, you could even turn them into the famous KEF Transmission Line Speakers with an added super-tweeter and a very elaborate cabinet design. Nothing has been changed on these speakers since I owned them (probably 20 years). I have 2 spare B139 bass drivers that you could purchase at $300 (for both). These drivers are also used in the KEF Celeste.
