Your key role | To turanga matua We are currently looking for 3 Wakeover Community Support Workers to support a client with complex health needs, specifically related to a spinal cord injury, within a comfortable home environment. While this role involves a bit more responsibility than standard support work, you will be well-supported and trained to provide consistent, person-centred care. We are seeking candidates who are available to start around July. This is a 2-month fixed-term contract with the potential for ongoing casual work afterward. Your scope of support will include: • Personal Cares You will support your client with showering, dressing, toileting, and continence care. These tasks might seem small, but they’re personal and vulnerable moments. • Spinal Cord Injury Support Your client needs support with a few specific tasks, including tracheostomy care, bowel care, catheter (SPC) care, and pressure area checks. You might also need to do PRN suctioning or provide comfort cares when needed. Part of your role will be emptying the SPC during turn times and keeping an eye on any changes. • Mobility & Manual Handling You will be helping with transfers using equipment like ceiling hoists, slide sheets, and transfer belts. Your technique really matters here — not just for safety, but to help your client feel secure and respected. • Medication Administration You will be giving medications (including PRNs if needed), following clear guidelines. Accuracy is key, and it helps to understand why each medication is important. • Evening & Household Tasks This includes things like doing laundry, ironing, cleaning, restocking supplies, and setting things up for the next day — all the little things that help keep the home running smoothly. • Monthly Stock Checks Each month, you’ll also help with doing a quick stocktake and topping up any supplies the client might need. What We Are Looking For | Ā mātou e kimi nei • Minimum Level 3 in Health and Wellbeing qualification or its equivalent from another country is a must. • Full NZ Driver's License • A reliable vehicle of your own • A valid and current Basic First Aid Certificate is required. If you do not have one, you must provide evidence of a confirmed booking before starting employment. • Candidates must be able to pass a Police Check or undergo vetting. Additional Advantage: If you have experience supporting clients with spinal cord injuries be it here or from overseas, complex care needs, or behaviours of concern, that will be a great bonus in this role.
