Your key role | To turanga matua This is a great opportunity to balance your mahi (work) with time for your whānau (family) while being part of someone's progress and supporting their journey toward greater independence. Your scope of support will include: • Personal Cares You will provide 1:1 support with personal daily cares such as showering (on alternate days), toileting, manual bowel evacuation, suppositories, dressing, shaving, grooming, and oral care. These tasks require you to be empathetic, gentle, and respectful for your client’s autonomy and identity. • Spinal Injury Support & Clinical Tasks You will support a client with a spinal cord injury who needs help with daily routines. This includes things like bladder care and supporting their bowel routine. You will also help with passive and hand exercises based on physiotherapy guidance. • Mobility & Manual Handling You will assist with all transfers using equipment such as a ceiling hoist, slide sheets, and transfer belts. Safe technique, patience, and attention to the client’s comfort are key. • Communication & Behavioural Support You will support a client who values clear, respectful communication and consistency in their daily routine. Building trust and maintaining a supportive approach is key to their sense of autonomy. Other details: • 12-hour shift patterns (7 am – 7pm, 7 pm- 7 am) regular and consistent, providing you with stability • Days of work: Friday - Sunday • 24/7 rotational shifts – flexibility is required to cover any gaps when needed. • Join a supportive team that works together to provide consistent, respectful care for clients with complex needs—where every team member is valued and backed. Whether you are a seasoned community support workier seeking your next challenge or someone with a genuine passion for helping others, there is a place for you here. • Have a minimum Level 3 in Health and Wellbeing qualification. • Must hold a valid and current Basic First Aid Certificate • Have a NZ Full driver’s license and reliable transport. • Experience with high-needs care patients is an advantage but not mandatory. • Show interest in rehabilitation and enabling independence. • A strong commitment to providing exceptional care and support, with respect for Te Tiriti o Waitangi and cultural safety. • Possess strong interpersonal skills and integrity. Additional Advantage: Experience supporting clients with spinal cord injuries and/or managing complex care and behaviours of concern is highly regarded.
