New Zealand circa 1916 Cinderella WWI Delandre [French] OS9 16th Waikato Regiment in position row 2/4 from a part sheet block of x20 different regimental designs, mint UHM. The 16th Waikato stamp has one perf spot, and regarding rest of the block there are perf splits [covered with hinge] for top row and two spots on ‘Royal Berkshire Regiment’ row 1/1 of block with vertical crease third column, though fine condition otherwise overall and very impressive. Very rare item and have never seen something like this being offered or sold before; as it is this is arguably the least seen of all the New Zealand Delandre issues, and seeing a large multiple like this including this stamp makes this an impressive exhibition display quality piece. Delandre, or Gaston Aime Camille Fontanille, was something of a conman, and during WWI created various patriotic cinderellas with a small number featuring New Zealand subjets.
