New Zealand 1932 Health 1d+1d Hygeia blocks of x8 [5/7-6/10] and x14 [R5/4-6/10] both from Plate 1, consisting of earlier print of pale carmine shade becoming increasingly pale towards bottom right corner most evidently on R6/10, and later retouched version of the plate in Carmine shade with retouches evident on R6/8, R6/9, R6/10 [according to Postage Stamps of New Zealand [PSNZ] Volume One]. According to PSNZ, two plates of 60 stamps each were prepared for use, though due to differences in the depth of engraving this resulted in more pale prints [Pale Carmine] for Plate 1 towards the bottom right corner; especially positions R5/8, R5/9, R5/10, R6/8, R6/9, R6/10 [as shown in this block]. This was later retouched to increase the depth of engraving and resulting increase depth towards a Carmine shade. PSNZ specifically mentions evident retouches including positions R3/1, R3/10, R6/8, R6/9, and R6/10 [the later three as shown in this block]. Despite the difference in shade, based on observable flaws as notes in PSNZ both are of Plate 1. Rare specialist examples for the collector and very valuable considering fine UHM condition. Specialised [CP 2018] CV: approximately $3000.00 [$120.00 x19, $240.00 for retouches x3].
