Solid
Porirua, New Zealand
About Solid Solid is on a mission to stop the 16 million toothpaste tubes that go to landfill in Aotearoa New Zealand every year. We make a range of toothpaste, tablets, powder and more that are vegan, cruelty free and have no palm oil. Everything is packed in glass bottles and jars that can be reused, refilled and returned. Solid is an award-winning business – we are a three-time finalist in the Sustainable Business Awards (achieving a commendation in 2023), a finalist in the ‘Green Gold’ category at the Wellington Gold Awards, a winner of the ‘Best in Oral Care’ at the Good Best of Natural Awards, and a nine-time silver medal winner at the NZ Artisan Awards. Most recently, we have been up for several Australia awards, including being a finalist for the best Zero-Waste product at the Clean & Conscious awards. Our founder, Laura, is an Oral Health Therapist turned toothpaste formulator. She started Solid because she was frustrated with all the single-use plastic waste involved in dental and thought that there must be a better way. Solid has now saved over 150,000 toothpaste tubes from landfill and can be found in 250+ stockists across the motu, including most New World supermarkets. Brush better with Solid! About the role We are a small but mighty team of five. We manufacture everything ourselves and your role would be to make New Zealand’s most sustainable oral care products. On a typical day, this would include making toothpaste, toothpaste tablets or mouthwash, filling jars or bottles, applying labels, washing jars, and maintaining a tidy and clean toothpaste lab. The lab looks a bit like a bakery, with mixers and other similar equipment. You would work 20-30 hours at our Elsdon-based lab, with the option of increasing hours if you like the work and we continue to grow. Hours are flexible and would depend on your availability but would be on weekdays and within the 8am-4pm timeslot. The role could suit someone local who wants to pick up some hours while the kids are at school. Ideally you are good with your hands and have a keen eye for detail. It involves a small amount of light-medium lifting. No previous experience required, although experience with health and safety regulations, knowledge of infection control and importance of keeping a high standard of hygiene practices would be good. We pay $26 an hour.
