Oakley’s Premium Fresh Vegetables, winner of the 2022 Horticulture NZ ‘Environmental Award’, are looking for a Maintenance Engineer (approx. 40 hours a week). Based in Southbridge, you must have the right to work in New Zealand and be able to get to work reliably each day. About the Role We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Assistant to provide some much needed support to our busy maintenance department at our main processing and growing operation, located near Southbridge. This role is crucial to keeping our business moving, and is responsible for: • Completing jobs as assigned, including preventative maintenance of fixed plant and equipment. • Responding to breakdowns of plant & machinery. • Keeping the workshop clean, tidy and organised at all times, ensuring that all tools and equipment used for maintenance and repairs are put away at the end of the job. • Being proactive and looking for ways to improve the workshop. • Abiding by all Health & Safety Policies and procedures. • Reporting all accidents / incidents, near misses and hazards immediately. • Actively leading and monitoring H&S initiatives to improve H&S within the workplace. • Carrying out any additional duties and responsibilities as may be reasonably required to meet the demands of efficient company functioning. This is an exciting, hands-on opportunity to join a growing family business. Hours and days are negotiable. About You Reporting to our Maintenance Manager and working closely with the Production and Post-Harvest Managers, you will be a self-starter who can work independently as well as part of a team and will have an inquisitive eye for detail. The ideal candidate will have: • Mechanical engineering background • Knowledge of tractors and farm equipment • Knowledge of packhouse equipment (e.g. conveyor belts, washlines, packlines) • Full understanding of engineering and associated principles • Strong understanding of Health & Safety with regard to machinery guarding and mechanical safety • Great communication & inter-personal skills • Ability to go the extra mile and get the job done • Flexible - due to the nature of the industry you may be needed to work extended hours or weekends About Us Oakley’s Premium Fresh Vegetables is a 5th generation family business dedicated to growing, harvesting, packing and delivering the freshest of produce throughout New Zealand.
