Whanganui Port is entering an exciting period of revitalisation with construction underway to create a modern, purpose-built marine precinct complete with haul out facilities for vessels up to 380 tonnes. Located at the entrance to the Whanganui River, Whanganui Port has the potential to become an important strategic, economic and supply chain asset for the Whanganui region and beyond. About the Role: Whanganui Port is seeking applications for the newly created role of Infrastructure and Property Manager with responsibility for managing the port infrastructure and property portfolio assets. With the redevelopment project continuing into 2026 this is a great opportunity for the successful candidate to become involved in the construction of the assets that they will ultimately be responsible for. The role is fulltime and a great opportunity to work with a small and great team of individuals who are passionate about what they do. Applicants should be able to work effectively in a team and sole charge environment. A high level of personal honesty, integrity and reliability, along with great interpersonal, communication and organisational skills are essential. Key Responsibilities: * Manage and oversee port infrastructure projects including construction, maintenance and upgrades. * Contribute to the successful completion of the port redevelopment project under Te Pūwaha. * Develop, implement and maintain Asset Management Plans and systems for the port’s infrastructure and property assets. * Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the port’s Harbour Endowment property portfolio. * Ensure all building compliance requirements are met, up-to-date and all buildings are ‘fit for purpose’. Qualifications & Experience: * A tertiary level qualification in engineering, preferably in marine or port infrastructure or a related field. * Experience in project and contract management. * Strong understanding of asset management principles and maintenance. * Budget management experience. * Strong commercial acumen supported by sound commercial judgement with well-developed conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills. * Highly developed interpersonal, leadership, negotiation and communication skills. * Ability to make complex decisions and solve problems effectively. * Proactive and adaptable mindset. * High capability to understand Te Ao Māori and Te Awa Tupua (the relevant Whanganui River legislation and embedded values). Te Awa Tupua Way of Working: Te Awa Tupua Act was enacted to implement the historical Treaty Settlement with Whanganui iwi in relation to the Whanganui River. This is a detailed set of legislation which includes a range of mechanisms to recognise the Whanganui River which is important for companies and employees to also recognise. While the successful candidate may not fully understand the legislation it will be expected that they will eventually have a practical working knowledge which includes working with the hapū collective. About Whanganui Port: Whanganui Port is operated by Whanganui Port Operating Company Limited with Whanganui District Council having transferred its port-related assets to a Council-Controlled Organisation (CCO) called Whanganui Port Limited Partnership. The port company manages day-to-day aspects of the port, the Harbour Endowment property portfolio, and the Whanganui Port redevelopment project under the Te Pūwaha revitalisation project.
