Learning Supervisor/Teacher We are seeking a Learning Supervisor on our High Country Station to assist two primary aged children with completing their Correspondence School lessons, and adding extra curriculum where needed. One currently in year 4 and one starting intermediate year 7 in January next year. If you love Children, farming, the outdoors, wide open spaces and beautiful scenery then this job is for you. Unfortunately, after nearly 2 years teaching our children, our current tutor is moving away meaning we are looking to replace him. This is a part time position 8.30am to 2.30pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, starting August. Salary or hourly rate would be paid. This person needs to be flexible with working days to allow around farm work and family time. For the right applicant we can offer flexibility around offering further work experiences on farm. Mt Cook Station is a traditional, family run, high country cattle station. It is located on the Eastern Shores of Lake Pukaki across the Tasman River from Mt Cook Village. Access to Mt Cook Station is via a gravel road from Lake Tekapo or Twizel, each approximately 40 minutes drive away. Mt Cook Station boundaries the Mt Cook national park and encompasses 2619 hectares. We run a variety of stock comprising of Angus beef cattle, sheep and deer alongside commercial hunting, tourist accommodation and weddings. The station is currently in the development process of converting back to sheep/beef and deer after wilding pines have taken over the station. We aim to be largely self-sufficient, we have our own water systems, vegetable garden and fruit, and we also process a lot of our own meat. 6 people live permanently on the station including the 2 children which require learning supervision. Due to our remote location, we have no access to schooling. Our children complete their schooling through The Correspondence School (Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu) Lesson plans and schoolwork are created and distributed by the children’s Correspondence School Teacher. There is a mix of online and hard copy work. All suitable equipment such as laptop etc. would be supplied. - Our school day runs from 8.30am to 2.30pm - Children Requiring Supervision are currently aged 7 and 10 - 24 to 36 hour working week - Some weekend or school holiday work is required to allow the family to take some time away during the quiet farm period - Teaching or teacher aid experience or similar is desirable but not essential - Knowledge of The Correspondence School desirable but not essential - Experience living in a remote location preferred but not essential - A school room in the main house is provided - Appropriate reference and police checks for working with children required Key Responsibilities - Supervision of children within school day including break time. - Supervision and assistance with school lessons - Liaising with the correspondence school teacher and parents regarding each child’s learning plan on a monthly basis (or more regularly if required) - Monitoring of any school supplies e.g art supplies Benefits and Inclusions - Accommodation or transport options may be negotiated - Internet (if accommodation is required) - Electricity (if accommodation is required) - Fuel and maintenance to and from work (If transport is required) - Contribution towards cell phone rental/prepay - Seasonal fruit and vegetables from our garden and eggs when available - Some meat If this role sounds like it would suit you, please send a cover letter and CV to Alana, Email to – mtcookstation@gmail.com
