This fixed-term, seasonal role provides an excellent entry point into the horticulture industry — with the potential for a permanent role after the season for the right person. What you’ll be doing • Assisting with product inspections and quality checks throughout the packing process • Monitoring product condition and ensuring compliance with customer and export standards • Supporting MPI phytosanitary and export documentation processes • Recording accurate data and contributing to quality improvement initiatives • Working closely with the Packhouse and Quality teams to ensure smooth daily operations What you’ll bring • A degree (or nearing completion) in Horticulture, Agriculture, or Food Science • Strong attention to detail and a passion for growing quality produce • Great communication and teamwork skills • A proactive, positive attitude and eagerness to learn • Confidence using Microsoft Office and digital reporting systems Location: Pukekohe Fixed-term: Approximate dates 6 January – 8 May 2026 (Start date December) Hours: 40 hours per week (additional hours may be required during peak periods) Why join Wilcox? The position: Approximately half your week will be in the nursery preparing orders and helping with general nursery work and the other half delivering quality hedges in our modern 11-tonne curtainsider truck. The ideal candidate will: Have previous nursery experience (or relevant experience in a similar job). Have a positive, can-do attitude. Have a valid Class 2 Driver's License with a clean driving record. Be energetic, physically fit and love being active and outdoors. About the Role We are seeking an experienced Spray Technician Machinery Operator to join our Horticulture team. This role involves the safe and efficient operation of tractors and associated spray equipment to protect crop health and ensure optimal yields. The position requires both technical skill in machinery operation and maintaining spray equipment along with a strong knowledge of agrichemical handling, compliance, crop protection practices, following spray schedules, and complying with health, safety, and environmental standards. Key Responsibilities * Prepare, mix, and safely apply agrichemicals in line with NZS8409: Management of Agrichemicals. * Operate, calibrate, and maintain a range of spray equipment and machinery. * Identify and monitor pests, diseases, and weeds to ensure effective treatment. * Maintain accurate spray diaries and application records to meet compliance standards. * Monitor weather conditions and adjust spray programs as required. * Ensure safe storage, handling, and disposal of agrichemicals. * Follow health and safety procedures and use appropriate PPE. Skills and Experience Required * Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in horticulture machinery operation * Minimum of 3 years’ experience in agrichemical application, crop protection, or a similar role. * Competent in mathematical calculations using fractions, decimals and ratios * Proven ability to calibrate and operate spraying equipment safely and effectively. * Sound knowledge of agrichemicals, pest/disease management, and crop protection practices. * Ability to follow spray programs, adapt to seasonal needs, and work independently. * Strong attention to detail with accurate record-keeping skills. * Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team. You’ll need solid tractor driving skills and a willingness to learn and develop in cultivation, planting, and harvesting. The Role To cover a busy period, we are seeking a Research Associate to join their team in Pukekohe to support the vegetable breeding program on a temporary assignment starting October 2025. This role will involve working outdoors on the research station as well as collecting and collating data to advance the products for the commercial portfolio. For the right candidate there is possible future opportunities within the wider business.
