Vindex 34 - safe, sturdy and ready for summer

After 22 years, my doctor has decreed it’s time to sell Faugh-a-Ballagh, recently described by a seasoned mariner as ‘the best sedan Vindex on the water’. When I set out to buy a launch I had limited experience, so I asked my mates what to look for in the ideal boat. Their recommendations included: A well known, professionally built and proven hull A well proven diesel engine with absolutely no engine electronics Simple, idiot-proof systems A large, social cockpit Good headroom for my 6 ft 4 height Sleeps 6 or 7 Bow thruster (this wasn’t on the original list, but is the best improvement I have made) 22 years later, my list would be the same, and I would buy the same boat. Built by Hamilton/Kerry Grice, and launched in 1996, I purchased her in 2003 at just 700 hours. In the years since, Faugh-a-Ballagh has taken us on some incredible journeys all over the Gulf, to Great Barrier, Coromandel and out to Great Mercury Island; around the Bay of Islands, Whangaroa and up to the Cavallis. This travel was done at between 9.5 and 10 knots, using (on average over 22 years) 11 to 12 litres per hour at 1700 rpm.
