General Manager – Marine Farming Association Inc. About MFA: The Marine Farming Association (MFA) is the leading voice for marine farmers in Te Tau Ihu/the top of the South Island. With over 130 members, MFA represents nearly 70% of New Zealand’s aquaculture production. The Association has a proud history spanning 50 years, with key advocacy areas including policy, research and development, environment, labour and skills and social license. About the role: MFA is seeking a dynamic, capable individual to lead and manage the Association. In this pivotal role, you will lift the public profile and reputation of both the Association and the wider industry by engaging with the community, fostering new opportunities to promote marine farming, and developing strong relationships within the sector and with local and central government. Key responsibilities include: * Representing member interests in industry forums and public settings * Managing day-to-day operations, including financial management and compliance with the MFA Constitution * Managing the Association’s waterspace assets to ensure compliance with all relevant consents * Identifying and promoting research and development priorities for the marine farming industry * Overseeing environmental initiatives and delivering MFA’s Environmental Programme * Engaging with regulators on key policy matters * Developing a high-performing staff culture focused on continuous improvement * Communicating scientific and technical matters to diverse audiences and responding proactively to community issues Who we are looking for: * Proven stakeholder engagement skills and an outstanding ability to build relationships * Strong commercial, financial, and management background * Excellent communication skills and strategic thinking * 8 + years of primary sector experience * Experience in organisational governance, project management, and leading teams is desirable This role can be structured as either a full-time or part-time position, depending on the successful candidate.
